Adopting the HPL approach means that no matter where your school is now regarding performance, our philosophy has the capacity to transform your educational outcomes.

Introducing and embedding High Performance Learning in your school is a major change which aims to change the mindset of the whole school community, driving a significant impact upon all aspects of practice within the school.

The Journey to Adoption

Our evidence-based philosophy provides schools with a long-term strategic direction that aligns with their unique context and culture, integrating contemporary insights into teaching and learning without requiring schools to abandon their current practices.

HPL therefore enhances and strengthens existing methodologies, allowing schools to achieve greater heights.

Every HPL school has, by choosing the HPL philosophies, adopted an evidence-based approach to improvement, and set itself the long-term aim of working towards making every student into a high performer. In doing so, it is setting new standards regarding what it means to be a truly world class school.

The Adoption Process

Adopting HPL follows a structured four-stage process, ensuring successful integration with ongoing support from our HPL team.

  1. Familiarisation: Initial training for key staff and introducing HPL to the school community.
  2. Embedding: In-school training to integrate HPL principles into lessons, curriculum, and feedback.
  3. Systematising: Creating structured processes to ensure consistent use of HPL across the school.
  4. Optimising: Fine-tuning HPL’s impact, fully embedding it into all school areas.

Supported by the HPL team, schools begin with a two-year Pathway Programme, gaining accreditation upon completing the first two stages. When schools accredit for the first time, it is expected that practice is still at the early stages with the majority of the school community now familiar with HPL and embedding it into every area of practice. In re-accreditation, it is assumed that the school will have moved significantly beyond this and will be using HPL to drive teaching and learning in the school and that as a result the school is demonstrating increasing success in terms of outcomes in all areas.

HPL adapts to any school, in any country, providing coherence and lasting improvement.

“HPL has been easier to implement than expected. It has been straightforward to weave into our core values. It formalises in a natural way, what we have wanted to achieve for a while. It’s everything we believe in.”

Andrew Whitaker, CEO White Rose Academies Trust

"One of the best decisions we have made as a school at the International British School of Bucharest was to get involved with High Performance Learning. It has been a fantastic journey over the past 4 or 5 years, and it has built upon the already strong foundations that we had in place as a school."

Matthew Tansley, Head of Secondary at The International British School of Bucharest

"I can confirm the outstanding impact HPL has on its pupils. It's truly transformative."

Julia Martin, CEO at Independent Schools Examinations Board

Every Student is a Potential High Performer

At High Performance Learning we believe that successful students are made, not born. Our core philosophy emphasises that schools should view every student as a potential high performer and adopt behaviours and language that reflect this belief.

HPL aims to develop students who are not only adept at passing tests but also become independent, thoughtful individuals capable of thriving both in school and beyond. Our HPL Student Profile outlines the dimensions of success, shaping learners who excel academically and personally.

To become high performers, students must gradually master essential competencies, known as Advanced Cognitive Performance Characteristics (ACPs), along with the Values, Attributes, and Attitudes that define success. This vocabulary becomes the cornerstone of teaching and learning within the school, creating a shared language that enables students and educators to communicate effectively about the learning process.
