Creating World Class Schools
"We now know from work done in neuroscience that the brain is malleable (Jonides et al., 2012) and that, in theory at least, students are capable of becoming more intelligent and achieving the academic results that were once the domain of the few."
- Professor Deborah Eyre - Quote taken from 'High Performance Learning: How to become a World Class School'
High Performance Learning is a forward-thinking, cognition-based approach that empowers schools to foster ambition, excellence, and resilience, driving lifelong success for every student.
Operating as a cohesive ecosystem, HPL integrates seamlessly with each school’s culture and values, creating an environment where academic success and personal growth go hand in hand.
Our evidence-based framework provides a long-term strategic pathway to cultivate exceptional teaching and learning practices, enabling students to achieve outstanding outcomes.
HPL does not require a school to reject their current ways of working, but rather helps schools enhance their existing strengths, building a unified, aspirational culture that attracts both dedicated educators and motivated learners.
Why Our Schools Chose HPL
Integrating HPL Into Your School’s DNA
Schools use the HPL framework to develop their own impersonation of the High Performance Learning philosophy, meaning it is adapted to your school's long-term strategy.
The whole school community through the framework develops a performance mindset and professionally reflective teachers become more ambitious for students and themselves. Teachers own their professional development and develop their teaching expertise to become experts in cognition so that far more students reach high levels of performance.
Working with School Leaders
Grounded in neuroscience, HPL recognises that all students have the capacity to improve cognitive ability through structured, supportive, and targeted learning experiences.
HPL views education as a continuous journey, equipping schools with a framework that builds year-on-year improvements in student achievement through strategic, sustainable methods.
HPL focuses on developing core competencies through the VAAs and ACPs, which the science links to long-term success and high performance.
By aligning staff and students with a unified purpose, HPL fosters a culture of shared high expectations, creating a sustainable, aspirational learning environment that benefits every student.
Pathways to Excellence
High Performing School Award
For most schools, the High Performing School Award (HPSA) is the recommended pathway. It targets ambitious schools that are performing well but seek significant improvements in teaching and learning. These schools typically have external recognition indicating acceptable quality with potential for enhancement. The HPSA pathway emphasises the role of Middle Leaders and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) as catalysts for change.
HPL is introduced through a series of half-termly projects led by Middle Leaders who undergo a formal training program, culminating in their accreditation as HPL High Performing Middle Leaders. The SLT oversees whole-school projects, with school accreditation occurring at the end of year two.
World Class School Award
The World Class School Award pathway is designed for leading schools that strive for continuous improvement and seek to stay at the forefront of education. These schools aim to reimagine education with progressive goals, becoming institutions with deep expertise in teaching and learning sciences. Typically, they already have external recognition confirming their high quality.
This pathway requires proactive leadership from the principal and key members of the school leadership team, who receive training, coaching, and tools to integrate HPL into their unique context. School accreditation is achieved at the end of the second year.
Become a World Class School
Start your journey if:
- You believe that #EveryoneCan
- We can systematically teach students how to be ‘intelligent’ and succeed in school and life
- You can develop the cognitive competencies associated with cognitive success and make them the DNA of our teaching
- You do not follow a one-size fits all approach
