HPL's founder and CEO, Professor Deborah Eyre, is speaking at HMC's 2018 Autumn Conference in Manchester on Tuesday 2 October. HMC (the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference) is a professional association of heads of the world's leading independent schools. 

The theme for the 2018 Autumn Conference is 'Together to Learn', with a three day programme of stimulating debates, keynote speeches and expert led workshops. Deborah is delivering a keynote speech and will also be leading three workshops introducing the High Performance Learning philosophy and framework

HPL is delighted to welcome five new schools to the start of their World Class School Award journey. Delegates from Abu Dhabi, Egypt, Malaysia, Tokyo and the UK joined the HPL team at Missenden Abbey in Buckinghamshire, UK, for an intensive two day induction covering everything they need to start their school off. 

The new schools are:

The Pearl Academy, Abu Dhabi
The British School Alexandria, Egypt
Epsom College in Malaysia
Sacred Heart High School, London
The British School in Tokyo

As well as sessions by the HPL team, delegates heard from HPL World Class School Doha College, which has just been accredited with the award. They shared lessons learnt over the last two years and described the fundamental impact HPL has had on their school, evidenced by record exam results.

Pioneering schools from Cambridge, Qatar, London and Norway have been awarded High Performance Learning (HPL) World Class School status at a special dinner on 24 September at Missenden Abbey.

The four schools - each very different in size, location and context - are united by a common belief that high performance should be a reality for the many and not the few. By undertaking HPL’s rigorous 2-year World Class School Award programme, they have met demanding standards ranging from the underpinning HPL philosophy to actual practice in classrooms. 

Professor Deborah Eyre, Founder and CEO of HPL said: “Our award schools are brave and ambitious and have transformed the way they work. All four have shown they are committed to moving beyond the ‘bell curve’, rejecting the notion of fixed ability. I have been blown away by their achievements and academic results, and can’t wait to see where they will take HPL on the next stage of their journeys.”

Recent exam results have shown the impact of HPL. Dr Steffen Sommer, Principal of award school Doha College, said: “We are extremely proud of the wonderful results, in fact the best ever achieved by our students, both at A-level and (i)GCSE in the last two years. They are eminent proof that the adoption of High Performance Learning, with the forward-looking teaching and learning behaviour it generates, is making a real difference. They have created a growth mindset in our students, which prepares them exquisitely for their future careers and life-long learning.”

There are 29 other schools on track to join them, from locations as diverse as Derby, Dubai, Peterborough and Mexico. Some of these schools are achieving highly already, whereas others aspire to be. However, all of them are looking to demonstrate their ability to provide an exceptional level of education for their students, using the HPL approach to enable them to reach high levels of academic performance.  

Professor Eyre adds:“HPL is a global movement for change and these awards show there is a fast growing group of like-minded people who want to transform the face of the education system. I couldn’t be prouder of the difference we’re already starting to make.”
