What is High Performance Learning?

The HPL philosophy is that almost every child has it within themselves to be a high performer and that the school should reflect that belief in its language, its expectations and the way it structures teaching and learning. Top schools should be coming close to realising this ambition for its students whilst good schools should be making steady progress towards it.

What is the HPL framework?

The HPL Framework is at the heart of HPL. It provides a robust and practical mechanism for use in normal subject teaching, and other learning contexts, which systematically builds in all students the cognitive competencies that successful people demonstrate. It provides a common language for teaching and learning that helps schools to optimise their teaching and learning and build on their existing practice. Plus, now that we know that far more students are capable of high performance this has become the new focus for ambitious schools.

Will it work in my kind of school?

HPL works in any kind of school. That is the beauty of it. It provides a coherent and rigorous approach but is adaptable enough to make it relevant in any context. If you are a high performing school already then it sets a demanding next step which honours your existing
